PREVIEW: Lincoln (12A)

Coming to Gloucester Guildhall is the exceptional film which is Lincoln.

A revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President's tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Abraham Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.

Daniel Day-Lewis provides audiences with an amazing performance in this outstanding film.  The two awards which Lincoln won are the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Actor (Daniel Day-Lewis).  Although these are the only two awards which Lincoln won but in total it was nominated for 12 Oscars, 10 BAFTAS, 7 Golden Globes and 4 Screen Actors Guild.

This is not just a film about American Politics it is a film about a man and his family. The performances given by all the actors and actresses are hypnotizing.  Which extends to Sally Field who plays the complex and fragile Mary Todd Lincoln, this performance earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.  The rest of the cast ensemble includes Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Hal Holbrook and David Strathain.

This film would not create the same impact on audiences with the memorising score created John Williams.

*Thought has been placed into every line and shot, a fluid marriage of image and word where the camera speaks and the language springs to life* Empire

*It's a must-see for Daniel Day-Lewis' charismatic, subtly shaded performance as Lincoln - and an even richer one by Tommy Lee Jones* The New York Post
